Akwa Ibom lauds World Bank on community projects

The Akwa Ibom State Government, on Tuesday, commended the World Bank for ensuring quality standards in the execution of community-based micro-projects in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Udom Emmanuel, said this in Uyo while inspecting 30 open market stalls constructed by the bank at Ifa Ikot Idang.
Emmanuel, who was represented by Stella Usah, the Director of Administration in his office, also inspected a skill acquisition centre in Obot Akara Local Government Area, four classroom blocks in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area and a health post in Ini Local Government Area of the state..........

He said that the projects, which were handled by the Akwa Ibom Agency for Community and Social Development Programme (CSDP), were of high quality.
The SSG said that the delivery periods for the projects were timely and urged the benefiting communities to make proper use of the facilities to better their lots.
Conducting the inspection team round the projects, the General Manager of the agency, Ishmael Akpan, said that 37 rural communities had so far benefited from the World Bank-assisted projects.
Akpan said the projects included potable water, health and sanitation facilities, market stalls and educational facilities.
He said the bank could do more for the rural communities if the state and local government areas were committed to paying their counter-part funding.
