Clergyman Seeks Co-funding Of Federal Universities

Speaking at the 3rd convocation ceremony of the institution in Abuja,  Rev Akinlolu said that it was not fair to blame the government for the collapsing standard of education in Nigeria, adding that governing bodies of federal universities should blame themselves for not fashioning out ways to assist the government.

According to Akinlolu, if the government is trying to make impact in funding institutions, the governing bodies of the federal institutions ought to complement the effort of the government. He said that presently, Nigeria has many private universities which are not funded by government and they have been doing well.

“I believe people can emulate things like that, instead of investing our money outside the country. The federal government is doing a lot in terms of education; if anybody says the government is not trying in terms of improving education, that person is not being fair to the government.

“Now, what are federal universities doing with their domestic income? Because every federal university generates domestic income. Private universities use their domestic income to sustain themselves.”

“What are federal universities doing with their domestic income? That is the question everybody should ask. Because if federal universities use their internally generated income to support the efforts of the government, then our universities will not be in shambles. The federal government should ask them what they are doing with their internally generated income,” he said.
