Inadequate Funding: CORECOEN Chides TETFund

The Conference Of Registrars of Colleges of Education in Nigeria (CORECOEN) has decried the non-availability of funds to carry out its activities and called on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to double the current amount slated for such.............

The national chairman of the conference, Muhammad Musa, who revealed this during the 43rd regular meeting of the conference, said “enough fund is not being provided by TETFund for training and development of non-teaching staff in colleges of education.”

It urged TETFund “to double the current amount available for workshop attendance and to sponsor graduate training for non-teaching staff in CoE accross the country” as the staff, he said played pivotal roles in policy design and implementation as well as the day to day operations among others.

The conference also noted with concern the non-involvement of registrars in TETFund meetings, workshops and trainings which they are expected to be part of as provided by their schedules of duty. It therefore appealed to the executive secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education to intervene by taking up the issue with his TETFund counterpart.

The conference also identified the need to enhance the remuneration package of principal officers in CoE to align with leading practices in the industry across the country.

“Principal officers who have all had their positions tenured need to be remunerated accordingly. This has been rightly done for the provosts. Therefore it should also be done albeit on a graduated basis for registrars, bursars and college librarians who work in the same challenging conditions”, it added.
