The Ogun State Police Command, on Saturday, foiled an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) robbery in Abeokuta.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Armoured Personnel Carrier policemen posted to Rounder point in Abeokuta North Local Government Area of the state received a call from the security department of the Crescent University Abeokuta that some armed men were operating at the ATM Room, property of a new generation bank, located within the.....
institution at about 1.30 am.
The policemen responded promptly and met five university security guards on duty tied down by the armed men while the robbers escaped through the fence of the school.
Though the armed robbers could not gain access to the ATM Strong Room, they damaged the main security door to the ATM room and tampered with some gadgets therein.
Adejobi said the police recovered “two cylinders containing methane gas, two sledge hammers, pliers, screw drivers, lighters, etc which were left behind because of police presence”.
Adejobi also disclosed that one Abdulliahi Tunde, a 20 year-old welder, was arrested around the University when he was making suspicious calls on phone at about 10:10 am while policemen on surveillance were combing the bush around the school. He has been transferred to Special Anti-Robbery Squad for thorough investigation.
